In each of these classes\, we will have limited attendees and provide direct feedback on images. We encourage photographers of all skill levels to consider these classes\, as they will build upon your experience and provide an excellent chance to work on your imagery!\nEditing in Adobe Lightroom\nThis is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we “step it up” and figure out what to we’re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for this three-week course that helps answer many of these questions. What’s most important about this course is that we will give weekly editing assignments\, and we will review those edits at the start of the following week. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are “good” or “correct”. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nIn week one\, we’ll talk about file types and adjustment ranges using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. In week two\, we’ll dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture and begin to discuss a variety of masking techniques. These changes will help make your images pop. Finally\, in week three\, we’ll discuss advanced editing\, including Sharpening\, HDR\, Pano stitching and more.\nEach week\, we will give an assignment and students will upload their edited photos prior to the next class. But since the turn of the century and the advent of the digital SLR (DSLR)\, the photographic world has taken a sharp turn away from film and towards digital technology. However\, despite the loss of many major company film stocks\, many interesting\, new film stocks have entered the market and film has remained a unique\, niche product with a distinctive look.\nDuring this session\, we will discuss the essential aspects of 35mm film\, including how to properly load film into the camera\, how to properly expose images in your camera\, and other aspects to consider when shooting. In our Hunt’s Melrose store or Online!\nAbout The Printed Vision Series\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product\, which is the purpose behind the Printed Vision Series.\nEach Printed Vision topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic and elaborate on editing with examples. This will include discussion of exposure\, dynamic range and color\, but also deeper points\, such as noise reduction\, image sharpening and grain. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. We will print?one?of the two images leading into the second session and discuss some of the challenges we face in printing them.\nYou do not need to produce a new image for this class and can go into your archives to print\, but you are welcome to go out into the field and create something new based on the topic!\nThis Month?s Printed Vision Session: Subtle Qualities of Matter Paper\nTo someone that doesn’t print\, there are two types of paper–Matte and Glossy. Often\, people refer to Matte as the “less shiny” surface. In reality\, there are so many variations to Matte paper\, a surface that has no glare\, sheen\, or reflectivity. But within this paper surface is a thing of beauty\, a subtle quality that\, when edited properly\, can create an almost three-dimensional quality.\n We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Printed Image Review. You will have that time period in between to edit your images. In the end\, you will receive a 12×19″ print on fine art paper. In the class\, we will be using a variety of paper options\, including Moab\, Hahnemuhle\, and Canson Fine Art papers. DESCRIPTION:Have you attended a recent Hunt’s Photo Walk or Adventure and want to get a print made? Do you either want to learn a little bit about the editing process or get a professional’s opinion?   If the answers to these questions are “yes”\, this will be an excellent opportunity to take advantage of our Hunt’s Photo Walk Printing Series.\nHere’s how it works: If you’ve taken a Hunt’s Photo Walk or Adventure recently\, you are welcome to sign up for the class! (There really isn’t a date limitation\, but we always encourage printing an image within a few months.) Upon signing up\, you will receive an email reading “Confirmation for Hunt’s Photo Walk and Adventure Printing Series”. In that email will be a few basic instructions\, including what images to consider\, what type of image to submit\, and where to upload the images. (We ask that images are uploaded a few days prior to class date so that we have enough time to review and print them.) We will then go through the images for review in a video recording\, discussing exposure\, cropping/composition\, print sizing\, color\, and paper options that may fit with the image. We’ll send you that review\, and upon your approval\, make the prints. We will then regroup for a full print review on the date listed above. You can attend that session live in our Melrose store location or online!\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product.\nWe hope to see you there for this fun experience!\n*Please note: The cost of this class includes the image review and printing of the image up to 13×19″. There?s so much to the printing process that is foreign and never covered in standard courses\, and so in this course\, we will begin to cover some of the basics.\nIn this three session course\, we?ll discuss the following topics:\n-Organization?how to use your software (ANY software) to work for you to prepare your vision\n-Culling your images? reducing the quantity of images you use to strengthen your end result\n-Pre-visualization? Begin to develop your storytelling journey by letting the images guide you!\n-Exporting & Importing?How do we bring the images out of the program we?re using and at what settings?\n-Online options and standalone programs for building books\, calendars\, and more.\n-Layouts?What are some of the basic design elements that we can employee? What can be automated and what do we have to do from scratch?\n-Storytelling?This is the glue that holds the book together! (Figuratively\, not literally.) DESCRIPTION:Hunt’s Photo Education often promotes the idea of using Adobe Lightroom for most basic editing\, as the program’s interface for editing multiple images is fairly intuitive and is designed specifically for photographers. Lightroom can do quite a bit\, but there are times when Adobe Photoshop can do a better job. Where can we benefit from using Photoshop as opposed to Lightroom?\nOur course\, Photoshop for Lightroom Users\, teaches the essentials that we should know in Photoshop.  We will begin by making basic changes to the images in Lightroom\, then bring them to Photoshop to fine-tune them and make the corrections that we either cannot make in Lightroom or ones that would be easier or better quality to make in Photoshop. Since Lightroom functions as an organizer as well as an editor\, we will finish by bringing the images back into Lightroom.\nIn this course we will learn:\n?When and why to use PS over LR\n?What are Layers?\n?Basic Photoshop workflow\n?Removing objects\n?Basic adjustments\n?Adding text\nWe recommend bringing a laptop for this class with Adobe Lightroom CC Classic and Adobe Photoshop CC installed. Please be advised: Lightroom CC Classic and Photoshop CC are the only versions we recommend for this class. Please make sure they are both downloaded and make sure you can open them prior to arriving. Also\, please be advised that Adobe Photoshop Elements and older versions of Photoshop have very different layouts and will not translate as well for this class.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Printed Vision Workshop: Creating Cyanotypes
DESCRIPTION:Intro: Wednesday August 17th\, 7-8pm ? Online! \nWorkshop: Saturday August 20th\, 9am-1pm ? Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose \nNormally we will say\, “The printed image shows our successes and our faults.” In this case\, the point of the printed image isn’t necessarily to show us those successes and faults\, but instead to create something ethereal and fascinating!\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we dive into a workshop that will quite literally bring you back to the days of film and hand-printing!\nCyanotypes are quite literally BLUE prints that can be simply made by placing a negative on top of a piece of coated paper (or other material) under UV light (or the sun) for a period of time. Once washed in water\, the resulting print produces a brilliant blue image on a white background.\nWe will begin this workshop with an introductory presentation where we will discuss the process\, materials needed\, and the preparation to be working with the cyanotype chemistry (see Misc notes above). We will also discuss how to create a digital negative. For this workshop\, we will be creating our own digital negatives from an inkjet printer\, so you don’t actually need a negative and you don’t need a printer\, as we will be printing them in the store. Finally\, we will also discuss what to print on. Because we will have the ability to coat a material\, be it paper or fabric\, you can use a variety of printing surfaces\, which will elaborate on.\nPlease note: We have recorded this introduction\, so if you’re signing up last minute\, you can still watch it!\nDuring the workshop\, we will dive into all these elements. We will go through the process of coating (and drying) papers and fabrics\, creating test and final prints\, and discussing additional elements to change the look of our final prints. This is a unique workshop that will emphasize creativity and process.\nA few items of note:\n?In this workshop\, we will be utilizing cyanotype chemistry\, consisting of ferric ammonium citrate (for light sensitivity) and potassium ferricyanide (for color). As described by the chemistry company Photographers Formulary\, “…[Potassium Ferricyanide] is not particularly toxic… [unless] placed in a strong acid solution; however\, strong acid is not used in the cyanotype process.”\n?Because we will be working with chemistry\, you must follow all instructions given regarding chemistry and personal protective equipment.\n?Because this chemistry can stain\, we will be taking precautions and wearing gloves. We strongly recommend bringing an apron\, one that you won’t mind if it changes colors.

In our Hunt’s Melrose store or Online! \nAbout The Printed Vision Series\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product\, which is the purpose behind the Printed Vision Series.\nEach Printed Vision topic will meet for two sessions. In the first session\, we will discuss the topic and elaborate on editing with examples. This will include discussion of exposure\, dynamic range and color\, but also deeper points\, such as noise reduction\, image sharpening and grain. In between sessions 1 and 2\, attendees will independently process 1-2 images and submit them to the instructor for printing. We will print one of the two images leading into the second session and discuss some of the challenges we face in printing them.\nYou do not need to produce a new image for this class and can go into your archives to print\, but you are welcome to go out into the field and create something new based on the topic!\nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Comparing Paper Surfaces\nWhat does it look like on Matte Paper? What does it look like on Glossy Paper? Why would I print it on one versus the other? What does the paper bring to my image?\nIn this class\, we will help discuss the answers to these questions. In our instructional online presentation\, we’ll discuss some of the key differences between paper surfaces and present a variety of options for you to have your image printed. Then\, we will literally print the image two times so we can see the difference\, getting to the root of the answers.\nIn the end\, you will receive TWO prints of your edited image up to 13×19″ in size. (Please note: The cost of a 12×18 or 13×19 print on fine art paper is $35-$40; the cost of this class includes the cost of those prints!)\nReceiving Your Print\nAfter the class\, your print can either be mailed to you or picked up at one of our Hunt’s Photo store locations.\nRegistering and what is needed\nAfter you register for this class\, you will receive a confirmation email that will include information about how to access the online class\, including an online ID code that you will need to get into the class. DESCRIPTION:This is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. How do we organize our photos? What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we ?step it up? and figure out what to we?re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are ?good? or ?correct?. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we will begin by discussing how to organize your images for quick retrieval via keywords\, ratings\, and more\, as well as giving a description on how to consider organizing your photos on your computer. Specifically\, we will cover brief computer file management\, the importance of keywords\, flagging and rating photos\, and searching metadata to find images. In Week 2\, we?ll start with the basic adjustments using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. We?ll then dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. In Week 3\, we?ll discuss advanced editing\, including local adjustments\, such as radial and graduated filters\, and how to ?finish? the image- sharpening\, noise reduction\, and more.\nIn-between each session\, we will give assignments to help you become more proficient and grasp the material! This class is strongly recommended for anyone looking to further their skills with Lightroom!\nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now. This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as ?Adobe Lightroom CC? (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different?
