DESCRIPTION:Fear is the path to the dark side\, but good lighting and a fun photo shoot are the paths to successful images! Join Star Wars fanboy (and photography instructor) Paul Nelson as we photograph Star Wars cosplayers for this fun and unique photo workshop. \nWe will start with a brief introduction on how to position lights to create mood and a “cinematic look”. We will then dive in to photograph our cosplayers with the emphasis on creating a dramatic look utilizing two sections of our Hunt’s Photo Waltham classroom. We’ll discuss how to light and what to use\, create shadows and textures\, work with models and more!\nIn this workshop\, we will cover:\n• How to compose the lighting in a scene- in this workshop we will specifically be using LED for simplicity\n• Creating dynamic shadows and effects in your work with lighting\, as well as other light modification\n• How to work with (posing and directing) models to achieve a desired look\n• Developing a creative concept in portraits\, not only using lighting and posing\, but also costumes (and if applicable\, hair and make-up) \nYou do not need to own a flash or lighting to attend this workshop. DESCRIPTION:Spend the day with Master Photographer\, Photographic Craftsmen\, Certified Professional Photographer –Paula Swift owner of Paula Swift Photography\, Inc. in Sudbury\, MA as she shares over 29+ years of experience as a professional photographer. \nGet hands-on as you learn studio lighting for newborn sessions. While many photographers are teaching natural or constant light in this area\, Paula shows how and why studio lighting is her way to go. \nYou’ll also learn how to prepare for a shoot\, including client consultation\, props and light set ups. Explore techniques to help throughout the session such as soothing and safety tips\, posing for both family and baby\, how to put everyone at ease\, as well as lenses and lighting methods that work easily and beautifully for new baby sessions. \nTake advantage of Paula’s expertise and experience to learn more about newborns and how to photograph them beautifully\, using studio light properly. \n  \nAbout Paula: \nPaula Swift\, M.Photog\, Cr.\, CPP started her portrait photography business in Framingham\, MA in 2004 and then moved into a new studio in Sudbury\, MA in December 2013. Paula is the recent Past President of the Professional Photographers Assocation of Masschusetts – PPAM (2021-2023)\, a PPA Councilor and PPA Approved Juror. \nPaula was a staff photographer at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette in Worcester\, Mass from 1995-2005. Three of Paula’s images were part of a Pulitzer nomination and finalist entry in 2000 in feature photography for the photography staff’s coverage of the deadly Worcester warehouse fire that took the lives of six firefighters in 1999. Her photography has appeared in the Boston Globe\, New York Times\, LA Times\, Esquire\, People\, Time\, Newsweek and internationally via the Associated Press wire service \nHer portrait photography has won her two Kodak Gallery Awards\, a Hallmark Award\, Photographic Degree of Excellence by PPAM\, Loan and General Collections at IPC. ­­ In 2024\, \, Paula was recognized as Platinum Medalist\,  a Silver Medalist in 2022  and in 2014\, 2018\, 2019\, 2020 a Bronze Medalist for her photography at the Professional Photographers of America International Photographic Competition. \nIn May 2017\, Paula’s book Storytelling Portrait Photography: How to Document the Lives of Children and Families published. The book offers ideas for creating a strong and lasting client connection\, eliciting memorable moments\, finding storytelling locations\, inspiring natural action and reactions\, and capturing the inter-relationships between siblings and between children and their parents. \nPaula was born in Newport News\, Virgina and grew up Longmeadow\, Mass where she first learned to develop film in her parents’ basement with her big sister Gina who is a LA Times photographer.  She attended Fitchburg State University where she received her Bachelors of Science in Communications Media – Photography in 1995. SUMMARY:Multi-Session Series- Adobe Lightroom Classic- File Management & Editing (Part 3)- Hunt's Photo\, Waltham
DESCRIPTION:This is a great opportunity to build up your editing skills in Lightroom!\nAdobe Lightroom is the choice program for professionals and amateurs\, with ever-growing capabilities and options. However\, there are many levels to understanding in the program. How do we organize our photos? What do we do to make basic changes? Once we learn those changes\, how can we ?step it up? and figure out what to we?re supposed to do? How do we make images pop? And finally\, how do we put it all together and making finishing touches to our images.\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education for a course that helps answer many of these questions. Often\, Lightroom users struggle with the inability to determine what changes are ?good? or ?correct?. While those terms are subjective\, we will help you along in the editing process to see how to make determinations along the way.\nThis is a Multi-Session Class! In Week 1\, we will begin by discussing how to organize your images for quick retrieval via keywords\, ratings\, and more\, as well as giving a description on how to consider organizing your photos on your computer. Specifically\, we will cover brief computer file management\, the importance of keywords\, flagging and rating photos\, and searching metadata to find images. In Week 2\, we?ll start with the basic adjustments using Basic Development controls. More than anything\, we will be emphasizing global changes and understanding what can be done with an image in Lightroom. We?ll then dive into Color\, Curves\, Contrast & Clarity & Texture. These changes will help make your images pop. In Week 3\, we?ll discuss advanced editing\, including local adjustments\, such as radial and graduated filters\, and how to ?finish? the image- sharpening\, noise reduction\, and more.\nIn-between each session\, we will give assignments to help you become more proficient and grasp the material! This class is strongly recommended for anyone looking to further their skills with Lightroom!\nAn important note about this course! There are now a few different versions of Adobe Lightroom right now. This course is specifically on Adobe Lightroom Classic. The other version of Lightroom\, commonly known as ?Adobe Lightroom CC? (yes\, we understand you may be confused by this) is a more mobile and cloud-based program. The look and feel of the program is completely different? DESCRIPTION:In this hands-on workshop\, OM SYSTEM ambassador Emilie Talpin and Hunt’s Photo Educator Emily Hojnowski (Emilie and Emily!) will immerse you in the world of macro photography.  They will give you a brief overview of what macro photography entails. Then\, we will learn to focus stack and bracket your shots to help you get better results. Throughout this workshop\, they will guide you and give you tips on sharpening your skills and improving your composition. We will play with light painting\, multiple exposures\, and art filters to help you push your creativity. You will be surrounded by macro opportunities\, from water drops to mushrooms\, and you will even be able to create your own macro scene if you wish. Come to learn and push your skills! \n  \n \nAbout Emilie\nEmilie Talpin is an OM SYSTEM ambassador who grew up in Chalon sur Sa?ne\, France\, the birthplace of Nic?phore Ni?pce and the first photograph. Despite this background\, she got into photography late and\, in 2018\, joined a local camera club where she met a group of talented photographers and was inspired to dive deeper into the art of capturing moments in time. She attributes part of her success as a photographer to switching from heavy and cumbersome gear to a camera system that is lighter and more versatile. She bought the OMD Em1 Mark II\, a wildlife and a macro lens\, and has never looked back. SUMMARY:Print Review Monthly: Making a Fine Art Print- Hunt's Waltham or Online!
DESCRIPTION:The printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product. \nThis Month’s Printed Vision Session: Making a Fine Art Print\nTo print fine art or not to print fine art: That is the question. What does it mean to make a fine art print? What photographic papers define fine art? What editing choices should we make to get through the emotions of the print? How do we calculate our editing with our paper choices? \nLeading up to the date of the session\, you’ll receive a pre-recorded video that discusses\, among other things\, considerations on editing your images\, paper selection\, and other important elements of making a print.  Attendees will independently process 1-2 images and upload them to the instructor for review. The instructor will send back a video image review discussing what you did and how to improve your edits for print. The instructor will then print one of the images to be displayed in the Print Review\, which will take place both in-person and online\, in case you cannot attend live. In the end of each session\, you will end up with a print up to 13×19” on Fine Art paper to take home with you. (We print on Moab\, Hahnemuhle\, and Canson fine art papers.) \nRemember\, tis the season\, and we don’t need to “buy buy buy” in order to give a wonderfully creative gift. Consider creating a fine art print and giving that to a friend or loved one! We will also discuss framing options and how that plays into the holidays.\nJoin us for this quintessential Printed Vision class! \nAbout our Print Review Monthly Classes \nFor our Print Review classes\, you can either choose a single session OR sign up for three months at a discounted rate.  You do not need to attend 3 consecutive sessions and may attend whenever it’s convenient. Choosing this option is excellent to keep the printing conversation going! However\, please note that the sessions expire after one year. (More details below.)\nWe will begin each workshop with a demo that will discuss camera settings\, lighting\, composition\, subject placement\, and more. You will then create and photograph your compositions for the remainder of the time during the workshop\, with instructor assistance available. Our ultimate goal in this workshop is at least one “final piece” that can be printed on a large scale.\nAt the end of the workshop\, attendees will work edit and process their images individually and submit 1-2 images to the instructors for review\, then print the images as 13×19″. These photographs will be hung in our Hunt’s Photo Gallery in Melrose for the month of December\, after which you will be given the print.\nThis will be a fun and challenging workshop that will walk you through the full process of creating stellar holiday macro imagery. SUMMARY:The Anatomy of a Shoot: Posing\, Directing\, Lighting\, and more with Jeremy Saffer
DESCRIPTION:Before a photographer takes the shot they have to choose lighting and direct their subject. In Anatomy of a Shoot\, Jeremy will take a deep dive into posing and lighting choices per artist/per look\, while coming up with a custom lighting set for each artist on the fly\, and explaining what poses work and what poses dont work per artist and lighting set and why. Students will then take over the set and have extended time to build their own set with the lighting of their choice from the weekend and then photograph the subject with extended time to direct\, pose\, and shoot while Jeremy stands by to give advice and feedback during the shoot (optional). Each student will take turns as the photographer\, while other students assist\, getting hands on experience with different lighting\, stands\, and changing settings for each set.
