SUMMARY:Hunt's Portrait Workshop: Urban Portraits Along the Riverwalk in Lowell with Natural Light (and Flash!)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for another entry in our series of portrait workshops where we will be utilizing the natural\, urban environment to work into our portraits. Brick buildings and cityscapes will all work into our compositions as we create a more working class feel in our portraits–a very unique look. To a certain extent\, these will be environmental portraits where the environment plays a role in creating the scene. Utilizing your environment in photographs is key to creating a fun portrait shoot! We will emphasize creating these portraits using available light through subject placement and composition with the aid of diffusers and reflectors. We will then separately demonstrate reasons to add in flash.\nWe will begin photographing late afternoon in the sunlight (and shade) and work to sunset along the Merrimack River along the Riverwalk in Lowell. We will be using strobes/flashes as well as diffusers to create stunning portraits.\nThis workshop will be co-taught by Hunt’s Photo Educator Paul Nelson and professional photographer Henry Marte. Both have extensive portrait experience and will take you through the full process\, from naturally lighting a subject\, to how to properly expose while using strobes\, to how to actually use the strobes themselves!\nPhotographers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. \nAbout Henry Marte\nHenry is a published photographer and credited filmmaker. He specializes in various forms of photography\, including portrait\, events\, headshots\, drone\, and commercial photography. Other than attending MassArt’s Documentary Film School\, he is almost entirely self taught. He runs a small media production studio called Marte Media\, based out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell. Some of his clients include Spartan Race\, UMass Lowell\, Phillips Academy\, Navigation Brewing Company\, and more. Originally from NYC\, he now calls Lowell\, Massachusetts his home. He enjoys New York style pizza\, walks with a camera\, and hiking to active volcanoes.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: A Day on Assignment- Olde Sturbridge Village
DESCRIPTION:Located an hour west of Boston\, Sturbridge Village is a proud replication of an 18th century New England town. Sturbridge Village is a living history museum that features many authentic period buildings and homes to explore and enjoy. The village is also inhabited by re-enactors who provide colorful insight to life in New England during the 18th century. Sturbridge Village is a wonderful destination for a multitude of photographic opportunities as well as a glimpse into a bygone era.\nOlde Sturbridge Village is perhaps one of the best places to have both a Photo Walk and a class. There’s a little bit of everything at this living history museum\, from macro and closeup with fine details to architecture\, from portraits to landscapes. On this workshop\, we will work for the day around a central assignment at Olde Sturbridge Village. In the end\, you should have a collection of images that support that central theme. This is an excellent opportunity to build experience\, work with subjects to create a story\, and also work on settings to fine-tune focus and exposure!\nJoin us for a great experience!\nPlease note: The cost of your ticket does NOT include the cost of your entrance into Olde Sturbridge Village\, which can be purchased here: https://www.osv.org/plan-your-visit/

DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Education for a walk at Blithewold Manor\, Gardens\, and Arboretum in Bristol\, Rhode Island! \nBlithewold is an historic estate that includes a 45-room mansion\, gardens with a variety of plants and flowers\, and an accessible greenhouse. The summer mansion was originally built in the late-19th century\, but was rebuilt in the early 20th century after a fire destroyed the initial structure. The estate also contains beautiful views of the Narragansett Bay. On this walk\, we will split our time between the manor and the gardens. \nPlease note: There are no tripods allowed on the grounds. A fast lens is recommended for shooting in the manor and a standard zoom or macro for the grounds\, gardens\, and arboretum. \nAlso: The cost of this walk does NOT include the cost of entrance to Blithewold. Tickets are $22 and should be purchased at the Welcome Center when you arrive.

SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- Minimalism
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Tuesday June 9th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review – Tuesday June 23rd\, 7pm EST \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. These classes are designed to provide you time\, opportunity\, and guidance in shaping your creative photographic voice. We will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field by yourself (or with someone else\, if you choose) to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThe Personal Vision Series is a crossroads of many different ideas that we offer with Hunt’s Photo Education: Topic-based instruction/classes\, Photo Walks\, & Image Reviews. However\, unlike a Photo Walk where we will all take a certain direction\, for the “Walk” portion\, you will be asked to journey out on your own to photograph. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month’s topic is “Minimalism”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment. Your personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Bugs in the Field with Emilie Talpin\, Portsmouth NH
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Educator Emily Hojnowski and guest photographer Emilie Talpin photographing BUGS in the field! On this workshop\, attendees will be hand held\, photographing close-up (macro) with an emphasis on bugs as we work our way along Prescott Park in Portsmouth\, NH.  \nAttendees should have a camera and macro lens\, but would also benefit from having a flash/speedlight for this workshop\, as well as a flash diffuser. If you don’t have a flash or diffuser\, we sell them at Hunt’s Photo and some are available to rent. Feel free to reach out to us at classes@huntsphoto.com if you have questions. Emilie also has a great video on how to make your own diffuser here. \nJoin us for this fun\, workshop! \n  \nAbout Emilie\nEmilie Talpin is an OM SYSTEM ambassador who grew up in Chalon sur Saône\, France\, the birthplace of Nicéphore Niépce and the first photograph. Despite this background\, she got into photography late and\, in 2018\, joined a local camera club where she met a group of talented photographers and was inspired to dive deeper into the art of capturing moments in time. She attributes part of her success as a photographer to switching from heavy and cumbersome gear to a camera system that is lighter and more versatile. She bought the OMD Em1 Mark II\, a wildlife and a macro lens\, and has never looked back. She is particularly interested in macro photography\, especially in the art of capturing water drop refraction. \nYou can read her articles: https://learnandsupport.getolympus.com/about-emilie-talpin\nContact\nInstagram: @emilietalpin ( https://www.instagram.com/emilietalpin/ )\nWebsite: https://emilietalpin.smugmug.com/ )\nYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsyFkE7rIxyID4-VRHcRXvg )

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Filter Workshop: Using Filters in the Field with Waterfalls
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a morning of learning what filters we want to use in photography\, how to use them\, and then go out into the field to get some hands-on practice!\nWe will begin in our Hunt’s Photo Manchester classroom to learn about filters\, how to use them properly\, how to attach them to the camera\, and\, if applicable\, purchase filters. We will then travel a short distance to a NEW location (about 20-25 minutes away) to our waterfall location to practice long exposures. (Please note: Our location is TBA. To minimize confusion\, we will let you know in the reminder email a few days prior to the event.)  UV\, Circular Polarizer (CPL)\, and Neutral Density (ND) filters are all recommended. Students may choose to shoot from the banks of the river\, but the best shots will happen by walking along some rocks. Waterproof boots are your friend!\nWhether you’ve used filters and still have questions\, you’ve never used filters\, or you need a little inspiration\, this is a great opportunity to have some fun with filters! \n\nStudents will need tripods\, bug spray\, cable releases in addition to their filters.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Steam Punk in Waltham!
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a walk where we will work specifically on environmental portraiture in a street photography setting with the most outrageous (and awesome) subjects- Steampunk! \nFounded in 2011\, the Waltham Steampunk Festival is the oldest outdoor Steampunk Festival in the country. Steampunk is an aesthetic and fashion that often mixes old-fashioned design (ex. Victorian/19th century era) with futuristic technology\, or at least futuristic from the design’s standpoint. Colorful personalities\, eccentric clothing\, boisterous jewelry\, and clever gadgetry are just some of the elements to expect from this fun day! During the annual festival\, attendees and vendors gather to show off their unique outfits and inventions.  It is a spectacular event for photographers to experience and photograph. \nOn this walk\, we will photograph at the festival for the majority of the day\, meeting at 11:30am until the end of the festival at 4pm. (If you cannot attend for the entirety\, that’s OK\, but we will be in attendance for the day!) SUMMARY:Online: Personal Vision Series- Signs of Spring
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Tuesday May 5th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review – Wednesday May 20th\, 7pm EST \nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we help grow your knowledge\, creativity\, and artistic expression with our expanded Personal Vision Series. This will cause you to be the driving force of your creativity and vision!\nThis month’s topic is “Signs of Spring”. We will have an instructional online presentation on the first date and will reconvene for our Image Review on the second date. You will have that time period in between to photograph and edit our assignment. Your personal creative voice is critical to your growth as a photographer and as an artist. Join us for to help grow that voice!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Piers Park\, East Boston
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a photo walk at Piers Park in East Boston. During the walk\, we will discuss shooting in lower light with an emphasis on night photography. This will include assistance with exposure\, composition\, focusing\, use of tripods\, and a myriad of other settings and concepts!\nMuch of East Boston consists of dense residential neighborhoods\, in part as a carryover from the area’s heavy influx of immigration at the turn of the previous century\, and in part to its proximity to downtown Boston. Piers Park was developed in the mid-1990s as a contrast to this\, offering beautiful landscaping\, natural vegetation\, and stunning views of downtown Boston. On this walk\, we will photograph the grounds of Piers Park and the skyline during blue hour\, sunset\, and civil twilight. Photographers of all levels are welcome!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Film Workshops: Analog Adventures- Mirror Mirror with Jonathan Pitts-Wiley- Hunt's Photo Providence
DESCRIPTION:This is a 3-part workshop.\nPart 1- Online Introduction- Wednesday March 25th\, 7pm \nPart 2- The Workshop- Sunday April 12th\, 10am-1pm\nPart 3- Online Image Review- TBD\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education and photographer & artist Jonathan Pitts Wiley for Analog Adventures\, a unique film photo workshop! \nIn this series we will have dual goals— To work and get more comfortable with analog film and to explore storytelling through creating dynamic images. Attendees do NOT need to have extensive experience shooting film\, but should own and use a film camera. (It’s ok to bring a digital camera\, but the emphasis of this workshop is analog photography.)\n\nThe series kicks off with “Mirror Mirror”\, a session where we will work on portraits by photographing each other as subjects! The best way to learn about how to pose and direct your subject is to be a subject yourself\, and that’s what this workshop aims to do. Conducted out of our Hunt’s Providence location in a studio atmosphere using LED continuous lighting\, session attendees will walk away with a better understanding of what makes a successful portrait and how to execute it–not to mention some great shots of themselves!\n\n\nA bit of info on Analog Adventures– Each of these workshops will begin with a brief online introductory class prior where we will meet and discuss the topic. Anyone is free to attend this presentation\, so if you’re interested and unsure\, come on in!\nDuring the workshop\, we will work with your film camera and discuss all many elements of the topic.\nAfter the workshop\, attendees will individually develop and scan their own film. (You can develop and scan it on your own\, drop it off at Hunt’s for an additional charge\, or take one of Hunt’s Photo Education’s film developing classes.) We will then reconvene about a month later for an image review\, where attendees will be able to submit a small handful of images that they took during the workshop for review.\n\nPlease note: As mentioned above\, these workshops are designed for film cameras. Attendees do NOT need to have extensive experience shooting film\, but should own and use a film camera. (It’s ok to bring a digital camera\, but the emphasis of this workshop is analog photography.)

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation
DESCRIPTION:The Charles River Museum of Industry is currently housed in what is considered the first ever factory in America. In Waltham\, the closed factory now plays the role of housing a history of the tools and machinery used in industry. This walk is an excellent chance to photograph the grit of the previous centuries under the Industrial Revolution\, and is a chance to work in low-light environments where the lighting sources cannot be controlled and focus on macro photography. Join us for a wonderful experience!
