SUMMARY:Online: Creative Composition Series- Patterns
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Tuesday October 4th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review Tuesday October 18th\, 7pm EST\nWhen someone says\, “They have an eye for photography”\, the general consensus is that they have a good eye for composition. Composition can be both simple and complex\, often at the same time\, and there are an infinite number of variations on those complexities (and simplicities). And even if you have a good eye for composition\, it’s important to train your creative core!\nThus we introduce our Creative Composition Series. In this series\, Hunt’s Photo Education will help strengthen your compositional muscles! In class one\, we will give an overview on a specific style of composition in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field to photograph in that compositional style. We will collect images and reconvene a few weeks later for an online image review to discuss the compositional elements of your image.\nThis month?s composition is Patterns. Come join us to work and strengthen your creative compositions!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk: Flowers in Bloom at Fuller Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education on a beautiful photo walk photographing plants and flowers with an emphasis on macro photography. Due to space constraints\, we will also be working handheld–without tripods! We will maximize our quality to get the best shot while in this situation! This is a great exercise to work handheld to get the best shot! During this walk\, we will work on use of color\, close up/macro photography\, depth of field\, exposure and use of reflectors/diffusers.\nFuller Gardens is a public\, non-profit botanical garden in North Hampton\, New Hampshire. The gardens include continuously blooming flowers\, emphasizing a rose garden and dahlias throughout the season. For more information on Fuller Gardens can be found here.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Film Photo Walk: The North End in the Morning
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a unique walk in the North End of Boston– one where all the attendees use only film cameras!\nFilm Photography isn’t the juggernaut that it used to be\, but neither is it the lumbering dinosaur some make it out to be. Film still gives a unique look quite different from digital photography (ahem…grain!) and challenges the photographer to think a bit more about exposure\, focus\, composition\, and more. This walk is an excellent opportunity to work on all of these concepts. Even when we’re not shooting digital\, we can plan out our shots without the instant gratification and review.\nA few notes about our Film Photo Walks\n? Attendees should have a working film camera that they can use for the walk as well as any film they would like to use.\n? Please make sure you have a working battery in the camera.\n? If you are unsure whether your camera is fully functional\, we strongly recommend you contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com and schedule a time that we can check it out!\n? It is also strongly recommended that you either load the film in advance or have an understanding of how to load the film. Again\, if you’re unsure\, contact us at classes@huntsphoto.com.\n? Our instructors know film cameras! But we don’t always know EVERY camera immediately\, so as we state above\, please plan accordingly if you’re unsure.\n? And if you do not have a film camera\, Hunt’s Photo stocks a great deal of used film cameras!

SUMMARY:Online: Alt-Creative Series- Intentional Camera Movement
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Tuesday September 27th\, 7pm EST\nImage Review Tuesday October 11th\, 7pm EST\nPhotography can be a very technical process\, but more important than the technical prowess of your photograph is the creative center. In these classes\, we will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThis month?s topic is Intentional Camera Movement. In the first session\, we will discuss all about Intentional Camera Movement: why and how to create them\, and how to make the most out of them. We will give an overview of how to set up your camera for the movements\, including settings. We will then reconvene for our Image Review on the second date\, giving you time in between to complete the assignment.\nJoin us\, do something fun\, and get creative!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Walk and Adventure Printing Series
DESCRIPTION:Have you attended a recent Hunt’s Photo Walk or Adventure and want to get a print made? Do you either want to learn a little bit about the editing process or get a professional’s opinion? If the answers to these questions are “yes”\, this will be an excellent opportunity to take advantage of our Hunt’s Photo Walk Printing Series.\nHere’s how it works: If you’ve taken a Hunt’s Photo Walk or Adventure recently\, you are welcome to sign up for the class! (There really isn’t a date limitation\, but we always encourage printing an image within a few months.) Upon signing up\, you will receive an email reading “Confirmation for Hunt’s Photo Walk and Adventure Printing Series”. In that email will be a few basic instructions\, including what images to consider\, what type of image to submit\, and where to upload the images. (We ask that images are uploaded a few days prior to class date so that we have enough time to review and print them.) We will then go through the images for review in a video recording\, discussing exposure\, cropping/composition\, print sizing\, color\, and paper options that may fit with the image. We’ll send you that review\, and upon your approval\, make the prints. We will then regroup for a full print review on the date listed above. You can attend that session live in our Melrose store location or online!\nThe printed image shows our successes and our faults at a much higher level of detail than the digital image. To become better photographers\, it helps to understand this by creating the printed image as a final product.\nWe hope to see you there for this fun experience!\n*Please note: The cost of this class includes the image review and printing of the image up to 13×19″. Extra prints and/or larger prints can also be produced for an additional charge.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Workshop: Wiscasset Railroad and WWI Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education for a unique workshop at the Wiscasset\, Waterville\, and Farmington Railway in Alna\, Maine. On the workshop\, we will photograph around the train yard of steam locomotives running\, and also be present for (and photograph) a World War 1 Re-Enactment Encampment full of soldiers in period uniforms and attire.\nThe Wiscasset\, Waterville\, and Farmington Railway was developed in the late-1800s for a planned (but never realized) line to Quebec. The line\, which never made it to Waterville or Farmington\, was abandoned in the 1930s. The WW&F Railway Museum was developed over a shorter portion of the track and contains a fully restored and operational steam train and (occasionally) hosts reenactments.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Photo Lensbaby Walk: Flowers in Bloom at Fuller Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Education on a beautiful photo walk photographing plants and flowers with an emphasis on using Lensbaby lenses. Lensbabies are a unique series of lenses\, available for most camera systems that give a variety of looks and effects\, from swirling bokeh to dramatic vignettes\, velvety glows to swirly blurs\, and often with a bright sharp center.\nIn this workshop\, we will be working exclusively with Lensbabies at the Gardens. This will be an excellent way to workshop your lens and is recommended for anyone that has struggled with or has questions on Lensbaby!\nDue to space constraints\, we will also be working handheld–without tripods! We will maximize our quality to get the best shot while in this situation! This is a great exercise to work handheld to get the best shot!\nFuller Gardens is a public\, non-profit botanical garden in North Hampton\, New Hampshire. The gardens include continuously blooming flowers\, emphasizing a rose garden and dahlias throughout the season. For more information on Fuller Gardens can be found here.

SUMMARY:Creative Concept Workshop: Food Drops (and Floating Objects!)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hunt’s Photo Educators Ron Phillips and Paul Nelson for a unique\, informative\, and fun workshop! Drop some food\, take some pictures\, and have some fun!\nPhotography often starts with an idea\, but sometimes those ideas require post-processing to make them a reality. ?I want to capture food in mid-air falling onto a plate.? You know it can be done\, but how can we do it? Ultimately\, this is achieved through the combination of good lighting\, a good setup and technique\, and finally\, multiple exposures combined in post-processing. And while it sounds difficult\, our goal in this workshop will be to break it all down and use simple techniques to get an amazing finished product!\nWe’ll begin with the concept\, pictured above. Working in groups of two\, we will put together the lighting for the scene and set up the composition. Then we will photograph and work on technique and execution. Once we have successful images\, we will then dive into post-processing using Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop\, combining exposures to make an amazing end result.\nA note on editing requirements: For best results\, attendees should bring a laptop with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop installed (and updated). You do not need to be an expert\, but you should have some familiarity with Lightroom and Photoshop.

SUMMARY:Online: Alt-Creative Series- Adding Textures in Your Photographs
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Presentation Monday August 22nd\, 7pm EST\nImage Review Monday August 29th\, 7pm EST\nPhotography can be a very technical process\, but more important than the technical prowess of your photograph is the creative center. Join Hunt’s Photo Education’s lead educator Emily Hojnowski on our expanded Alt-Creative Series\, which is all about digging deep into many creative elements in an alternative method of photography! In these classes\, we will give an overview on a specific topic in an online class session\, then give you time to go into the field to complete an assignment based on that topic. We will reconvene a few days later for an online image review to discuss elements of your images.\nThis month?s topic is Adding Textures in Your Photographs. In the first session\, we will discuss all about textures: why and how to create them\, and how to apply them to your photographs. We will give an overview of how to utilize Photoshop for these aspects. We will then reconvene for our Image Review on the second date\, giving you time in between to create and edit our assignment.\nJoin us\, do something fun\, and get creative!

SUMMARY:Hunt's Printed Vision Workshop: Creating Cyanotypes
DESCRIPTION:Intro: Wednesday August 17th\, 7-8pm ? Online! \nWorkshop: Saturday August 20th\, 9am-1pm ? Hunt’s Photo\, Melrose \nNormally we will say\, “The printed image shows our successes and our faults.” In this case\, the point of the printed image isn’t necessarily to show us those successes and faults\, but instead to create something ethereal and fascinating!\nJoin Hunt’s Photo Education as we dive into a workshop that will quite literally bring you back to the days of film and hand-printing!\nCyanotypes are quite literally BLUE prints that can be simply made by placing a negative on top of a piece of coated paper (or other material) under UV light (or the sun) for a period of time. Once washed in water\, the resulting print produces a brilliant blue image on a white background.\nWe will begin this workshop with an introductory presentation where we will discuss the process\, materials needed\, and the preparation to be working with the cyanotype chemistry (see Misc notes above). We will also discuss how to create a digital negative. For this workshop\, we will be creating our own digital negatives from an inkjet printer\, so you don’t actually need a negative and you don’t need a printer\, as we will be printing them in the store. Finally\, we will also discuss what to print on. Because we will have the ability to coat a material\, be it paper or fabric\, you can use a variety of printing surfaces\, which will elaborate on.\nPlease note: We have recorded this introduction\, so if you’re signing up last minute\, you can still watch it!\nDuring the workshop\, we will dive into all these elements. We will go through the process of coating (and drying) papers and fabrics\, creating test and final prints\, and discussing additional elements to change the look of our final prints. This is a unique workshop that will emphasize creativity and process.\nA few items of note:\n?In this workshop\, we will be utilizing cyanotype chemistry\, consisting of ferric ammonium citrate (for light sensitivity) and potassium ferricyanide (for color). As described by the chemistry company Photographers Formulary\, “…[Potassium Ferricyanide] is not particularly toxic… [unless] placed in a strong acid solution; however\, strong acid is not used in the cyanotype process.”\n?Because we will be working with chemistry\, you must follow all instructions given regarding chemistry and personal protective equipment.\n?Because this chemistry can stain\, we will be taking precautions and wearing gloves. We strongly recommend bringing an apron\, one that you won’t mind if it changes colors.

SUMMARY:Hunt's Street Photography Walk: The North End in the Morning
DESCRIPTION:For this workshop\, we will be working on Street Photography in the North End. Quaint eateries\, fine restaurants\, and historic locations are characteristics that make the North End one of Boston?s premier destinations.\nThis walk is a terrific opportunity to work on street and candid photography\, with plenty of subject matter. We will discuss managing ISO and shutter speed in low-light conditions to never miss a shot\, as well as the art of blending in and going unnoticed.\nAlso\, this walk will be occurring in-between days 1 and 2 of one of the North End’s Feast weekends\, which will give us an added opportunity to photograph interesting subject matter!\nWe will also try to get it all right in camera! While you are welcome to shoot in RAW\, we’ll also discuss the joy of shooting for the end result in JPEG! Join us for a fun walk!!
